The Cedars-Sinai Kerlan-Jobe Institute has announced the launch of a youth sports medicine program to provide education and strategies to young athletes, parents and coaches, according to a press release.
A group of physician leaders, sports medicine and pediatrics specialists, and physical therapists will help to implement the program, which focuses on injury prevention, diagnostics, physical therapy and pain management techniques in youth athletics, according to the release.
“As pioneering researchers for sports injury prevention, surgery and rehabilitation, we are excited to work closely with our served communities by providing clinically proven injury prevention and sports medicine education and strategies needed to help young athletes, parents and coaches implement and maintain safe, healthy routines,” Carlos A. Uquillas, MD, a pediatric and sports medicine orthopedic specialist at Kerlan-Jobe, said in the release.
“With the increasing numbers of kids and teens participating in year-round, organized sports and activities, sport-related injuries are on the rise,” Bert R. Mandelbaum, MD, co-chair of medical affairs at Kerlan-Jobe, said in the release. “We are excited to partner with parents, schools and coaches to provide a comprehensive youth sports medicine program designed to deliver major league care for our youth athletes so they can remain on the field and off the sidelines,” Mandelbaum added.
