KOLOA, Hawaii — In this video from Orthopedics Today Hawaii, Xavier A. Duralde, MD, spoke about the treatment of partial-thickness rotator cuff tears.

The tears are common and can be caused by failure of arthroscopic acromioplasty, he said.

“There are many different factors you need to think about in terms of when you fix them and when you don’t,” Duralde said. “Unfortunately, MRIs are not clear in terms of telling you how deep the tear is at the time of surgery. One thing you want to be sure of if you are operating on someone with a partial-thickness rotator cuff tear is to warn them ahead of time that the tear may be deeper than it seems on the MRI, and it may require repair and that will affect their rehabilitation postoperatively.”
