Xironetic has announced the FDA clearance of the IntraOpVSP software, which is an augmented reality visualization software for complex surgeries, according to a press release.

The IntraOpVSP software can be used preoperatively or intraoperatively to display MRI or CT scans to surgeons through the augmented reality (AR) headset, which display as 3D holograms. According to the release, the software is designed for general, craniofacial, maxillofacial, neurological, orthopedic, plastic, thoracic and vascular surgeries. Holograms seen in the AR headset help surgeons visualize surgical plans, anatomical targets and cutting guides alongside or overlayed on the patient.

“IntraOpVSP is an extension to virtual surgical planning tools used today, bringing the insights of 3D visualization of CT and MRI data into the OR to support improved surgical outcomes,” Christian El-Amm, MD, founder of Xironetic, said in the release. “Our software is a huge step forward for surgeons and their patients, and the FDA’s clearance is another important milestone in getting it into ORs everywhere,” El-Amm said.
