American Orthopaedic Association names Alexander J. Ghanayem, MD, FAOA, president-elect

The American Orthopaedic Association has announced Alexander J. Ghanayem, MD, FAOA, as its president-elect, according to a press release.

Ghanayem, an orthopedic surgeon at Loyola University Medical Center and chief medical officer of Loyola Medicine, will serve as president of the American Orthopaedic Association (AOA) from 2024 to 2025, according to the release. He graduated from Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine. He completed an internship and residency at Case Western Reserve University and a fellowship in spine surgery at the University of Wisconsin-Madison.

“I’m humbled and honored to serve the American Orthopaedic Association,” Ghanayem said in the release. “I look forward to contributing to its mission to lead the greater orthopedic community and address those critical issues facing our patients and physicians.”

“We are exceptionally proud of Dr. Ghanayem’s election to the executive committee of the AOA,” Richard K. Freeman, MD, MBA, FACS, executive vice president and regional chief clinical officer for Loyola Medicine, said in the release. “It is a testament to his leadership as well as his significant contributions to Loyola Medicine and the field of orthopedics,” Freeman added.
