TAMPA, Fla. — In his presidential address at the Orthopaedic Research Society Annual Meeting, Peter C. Amadio, MD, FAAOS, said it was an honor to have been the third individual from the Mayo Clinic to serve as the organization’s president.
“It has been an honor and a privilege to be your president,” Amadio said.
“I really have enjoyed being involved with the [Orthopaedic Research Society] ORS for the past, it must be 40 years, and especially this last year, of course, as your president, working together to achieve goals that would be impossible as individuals, but are possible when we come together to work together,” he said.
Amadio said R.N. Stauffer, MD, was the most recent ORS president from the Mayo Clinic before him and that was in 1976.
Hopefully it will not be that long between my ORS presidency and the next time someone from the Mayo Clinic holds the position of ORS president, he said.
Amadio thanked many groups and individuals during his speech, including the ORS board and members.
He expressed his gratitude for the ORS-wide efforts that went in to planning the 2022 ORS Annual Meeting and for the individuals who developed and executed programming and webinars throughout the last year that reached members and non-members alike, especially in light of COVID-19 pandemic restrictions and challenges.
“Resilience is a group effort. You need people to support you. We need to support each other. That’s how it works,” Amadio said.
The opening ceremony also included the introduction of the United Kingdom and the British Orthopaedic Research Society as the 2022 guest nation and the Orthopaedic Trauma Association as the 2022 guest orthopedic clinical society
