VIDEO: No correlation seen between postoperative alpha angles and 5-year outcomes following hip arthroscopy

BOSTON — At the Arthroscopy Association of North America Annual Meeting, Sanjeev Bhatia, MD, discussed a study which evaluated the importance of postoperative alpha angle assessments following hip arthroscopy for femoroacetabular impingement. The results showed whether the postoperative angle was above 55° or below 55°, it was not associated with outcomes 5 years after surgery.

He said surgeons should focus less on X-rays looking good when doing hip arthroscopy and focus more on intraoperative dynamic evaluations  to identify areas of impingement and address them.
