Lumibird Medical has announced the launch of the Pocket III, an ergonomically compact handheld pachymeter that weighs 60 g and has a measurement range of 150 μm to 1,200 μm.

“In addition to the importance of being able to calculate corneal thickness in pre-refractive surgery, pachymetry is essential to calculate and correlate with IOP,” François Checinski, Lumibird’s ultrasound project manager, said in company press release. “As a practitioner, you need to know the exact thickness of the cornea to calculate the ‘true’ value of the IOP that depends on this measurement. That’s why it is important to be able to measure corneal thickness anywhere and at any time, which can be done using the Pocket III.”

According to the release, the pachymeter has a dedicated holder that allows the 30 MHz probe tip to safely be soaked in disinfectant. The POCKET III can store up to 20 eye measurements at a time. The device can also transfer data using Bluetooth or a USB-C to a compatible computer and uses a rechargeable lithium-ion battery.

“This new pachymeter joins our wide range of new-generation ultrasound platforms, offering A/B/S/UBM/P modes exams, and further consolidates our position as world leader in ophthalmic ultrasound,” Jean-Marc Gendre, CEO of Lumibird Medical, said in the release.

The Pocket III is CE-marked and has received FDA 510(k) clearance, according to the company.
