Lumibird Medical has announced the launch of the Pocket III, an ergonomically compact handheld pachymeter that weighs 60 g and has a measurement range of 150 μm to 1,200 μm.

Intraoperative anterior segment OCT provides surgeons with heightened resolution of the structure of the eye and cross-sectional images of the anterior segment to provide extra detail during cataract and complex corneal surgeries.

Cataract surgery is our most powerful refractive procedure based on the spherical power that we can correct. Anything from –30 D of myopia to +20 D of hyperopia can be brought down to a spherical equivalent of plano by virtue of the IOL power that we calculate and select. Addressing the astigmatism at the same sitting is an added bonus and results in better visual clarity for our patients. While we can use a toric IOL for higher degrees of astigmatism, up to 4 D in the U.S., for lower amounts of astigmatism, corneal incisional procedures may be a better option.

PARIS — The corneas of patients with Down syndrome present many features similar to those of mild keratoconus eyes, although they do not meet the criteria to be classified as keratoconus, as demonstrated in a study presented at EuCornea 2019.
