CHICAGO — In this video, Joan W. Miller, MD, chair of ophthalmology at Mass Eye and Ear, discusses controversies surrounding the use of complement inhibitors for the treatment of geographic atrophy.
“Complement inhibitors that were approved are still somewhat controversial, and it still generates a pretty lively discussion,” Miller said.
Miller touched on discussions that took place at the American Academy of Ophthalmology meeting about the quality of data supporting the approval of complement inhibitors, the side effects associated with their use, treatment burden and the lack of alternative treatment options.
“It’s not as bad as U.S. politics, but people are pretty passionate on both sides,” she said.
