DENVER — The American Brain Foundation is funding research to find a cure for Lewy body dementia and discover breakthroughs in neuroinflammation, the group’s executive director said at the American Academy of Neurology annual meeting.

“American Brain Foundation focuses on funding for early career researchers,” Michelle Heritage said in this Healio video.

One $5 million initiative will fund research to find a cure for Lewy body dementia, “and that means we’ll also have breakthroughs in things like Parkinson’s and Alzheimer’s,” she said. “And we’re also going to be funding $10 million for the neuroinflammation initiative.

“Neuroinflammation is present across many brain diseases, and so we know when we find a breakthrough in neuroinflammation, we’ll find breakthroughs across many brain diseases that could be very disparate.”
