CHICAGO – Felicia Chow, MD, MAS, a neuro-infectious specialist at the University of California, San Francisco, discussed the care and approach to neurological infections during a panel at ANA 2022.
Chow and colleagues reviewed pearls for treatment of certain neurological infections, such as TB meningitis, cryptococcal meningitis and cysticercosis.
“Initiating antihelmintic therapy for patients with cysticercosis is never an emergency, and the first priority should be to make sure to address any seizures, increased intracranial pressure, hydrocephalus and any other neurologic complications that may be occurring with cysticercosis before you start antihelmintic therapy,” Chow said.
