World Federation of Neurology initiative aims to improve brain health
The World Federation of Neurology has launched the Brain Health Initiative, a program intended to help reduce global burden of brain diseases and disorders.
The initiative aims to bring together major organizations, institutions, neurologists, patients and caregivers to bolster brain health awareness globally.
“The Brain Health Initiative is intimately aligned with the mission of the World Federation of Neurology to foster brain health and quality neurology worldwide,” William M. Carroll, MB BS, MD, president of the World Federation of Neurology, said in a press release. “We feel that it is essential for the interested public to be able to connect with the federation and its constituent members in order to advocate and lobby for access to quality brain health and the means to obtain and maintain it.
“We hope that this campaign will inform the public, enabling them to do so,” Carroll added. “It serves as a call for advocacy around the world to increase the awareness and availability of quality brain health.”
The program consists of five units, each of which includes a video and supporting written materials related to the importance of brain health. It also offers actionable insights on ways to improve brain health. Further, the initiative seeks to align worldwide organizations on the importance of brain health as a public initiative.
The Brain Health Initiative units include “Introduction to Brain Health,” “What Happens When Brains Are Not Healthy,” “What to Know About Non-Communicable Neurological Diseases,” “The Global Impact of Brain Diseases and Disorders” and “The Vital Roles of the Neurologist and Advocacy.”
“We are doing this on behalf of neurology, to define the importance of brain health not only to neurologists but also to institutions, politicians and, most of all, patients and caregivers,” Wolfgang Grisold, FAAN, secretary general of the World Federation of Neurology, said in the release.
