Unidentified illness that causes seizures, loss of consciousness emerges in India

Hundreds of individuals in the southern Indian state of Andhra Pradesh became sick due to an unidentified illness, with symptoms that included seizures, nausea and loss of consciousness, according to multiple media outlets.
One patient who contracted this novel illness died, according to CNN, who was among the first to report the development. However, that patient had a fatal but unrelated cardiac arrest.
Officials in India have tested individuals affected by the novel unidentified illness for COVID-19, according to news reports, and all patients were negative for the virus. Initial blood tests demonstrated no evidence of a viral infection. Officials are also testing water samples for contamination.
