HOUSTON — In this video, Cheryl A. Nickerson, PhD, professor of life sciences at the Biodesign Center for Fundamental and Applied Microbiomics at Arizona State University, explains the benefits of microbiological research in space.

Nickerson’s lab, which has worked with NASA for 2 decades, is currently preparing for its 10th and 11th experiments to be launched to the International Space Station.

Nickerson explains how research mitigating infectious diseases in astronauts has informed antimicrobial therapy and vaccine advancement on Earth.
