In this video, Iberia Romina Sosa, MD, PhD, discusses the results of a study presented at ASH Annual Meeting and Exhibition, which examined Factor V Leiden and prothrombin mutation and the risk for venous thromboembolism.

Sosa, an associate professor and chief of the division of hematology at Fox Chase Cancer Center, highlighted the study, which identified three specific anticoagulant genes that may link factor V Leiden, prothrombin mutation and VTE.

“For any of us who have had to do a hypercoagulable workup, we know that sometimes we're very frustrated with how to utilize that information. But we're starting to actually link genes, function and clinical presentation, and this seems to be coming together to be a little bit more exciting,” Sosa said.
