CHICAGO — In this Healio video exclusive, Julie Silver, MD, provides key takeaways from her talk on enhancing the sense of belonging in the medical community at the Women in Medicine Summit.

“This is a particularly important topic for women in medicine. One of the things about belonging that is so empowering is that we do have the opportunity to increase our own sense of belonging and to recognize fluctuations in belonging at any institution or organization. Those are normal feelings,” Silver, senior associate dean for faculty experience and success at Wake Forest University School of Medicine, told Healio. “I also find it empowering that we can provide environments that help enhance other’s sense of belonging. This is incredibly important in terms of retention of women in medicine and making sure that people can thrive in the work environment.”
