Jennifer Byrne

Byrne is a medical journalist, specializing in hematology/oncology. She graduated from Rutgers University-Camden with a bachelor's degree in English.

 

Byrne — who has been in medical publishing since 2001 — is a Healio senior staff writer. Upon joining the company in 2001, she served as a staff writer for Primary Care Optometry News. She has written extensively about several other medical specialties, including ophthalmology, cardiology, infectious disease, endocrinology and psychiatry.

 

A story she wrote in 2006 for Ocular Surgery News won a Gold Award for best single news article in the American Society of Healthcare Publication Editors competition. Her work for Primary Care Optometry News has been recognized in the APEX Awards for Publication Excellence.
Byrne previously served as a reporter for The Gloucester County Times and The Bridgeton News.

 

In her free time, she writes and has published nonmedical journalism, essays, humor and fiction. She has done volunteer work for Samaritan Hospice in South Jersey, and this has deepened her knowledge and interest in issues of palliative care and end-of-life ethics and decision-making.
