VIDEO: AML survival improvement seen over past decade

In this video, Akriti Jain, MD, discusses the results of a study on treatment patterns and outcomes for patients with acute myeloid Leukemia , which showed that outcomes improved over the past decade.

The study, presented at the ASH Annual Meeting and Exposition, utilized the A Connect Myeloid Registry to track patient outcomes from 2013 through 2022. Researchers compared outcomes from the years 2013 through 2016 to outcomes from 2017 through 2022 and found a statistically significant improvement of overall survival, Jain, a leukemia and myeloid disorders physician at the Cleveland Clinic, said.

The study showed an improvement of approximately 16 months for the 2017 through 2022 group, compared to 11 months for the 2013 through 2016 group. The outcomes are likely due to increased rates of transplant, higher rates of molecular testing, and newer targeted treatments, Jain said.

"It goes to say how far we have come in terms of treatment in the past decade," Jain said.
