In this video, Lillian L. Siu, MD, FRCPC, discusses two keynote presentations at AACR-NCI-EORTC International Conference on Molecular Targets and Cancer Therapeutics.

One presentation was on lung cancer progression and detection from Samuel Janes, PhD, from University College London, London, England. The second was on CRSPR by Jennifer A. Doudna, PhD, of UC Berkeley, Berkeley, California.

Siu, senior medical oncologist at Princess Margaret Cancer Centre in Toronto, ON, Canada, commented on Janes' presentation on the pathogenesis and development from pre-malignant lesions to malignant lesions in lung cancer.

"The whole picture was exciting, helped us understand the biology better, and allowed us to really think of ways to intercept and intervene," Siu said.

Siu also emphasized that the future of CRISPR technology in treating cancer is promising. "Early work is already being done, looking at how we can use this technology to knock out certain genes to help bring a tumor to a normalcy state," Siu said.
