Matthew A. Steliga, MD, spoke with Healio about a presentation on smoking cessation programs for patients being screened for lung cancer given at the International Association for the Study of Lung Cancer World Conference on Lung Cancer.

According to Steliga, thoracic surgeon and associate professor at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences, the presentation by April Plank, NP, adult care nurse practitioner with Renaissance School of Medicine at Stony Brook University, demonstrated “success with repetition.”

“Talking with patients is not just words, it’s not just a thought but it’s an activity,” he said. “It’s an action and it is a treatment; and it’s a treatment with an effect.”
