Type 1 diabetes, type 2 diabetes and diabetes that complicates pregnancy are all on the rise. They continue to be on the rise even as we address some of the underlying factors. There's some still-evolving data about the relationship of COVID and result in diabetes, but I would say that we continue to see an increase, and particularly what I'm most concerned about is that we're seeing a significant increase in type 2 diabetes in children. And so this is something that was pretty rare before, but it's becoming pretty common. We're about to open up a pediatric diabetes type 2 clinic. And we know that when you're younger, the condition progresses more rapidly and it's less responsive to treatment. So that's a really big deal, and we're going have to refocus our efforts on that pediatric population.
In this video, Jay Shubrook, DO, diabetologist and professor in the primary care department at Touro University California, discusses changes in the prevalence of diabetes, especially in the pediatric population.
