In this Healio video exclusive, Melodie Young, MSN, RN, ANP-C, discusses highlights in psoriasis from Maui Derm NP+PA.
In a presentation, Young presented case studies on patients who appeared to have psoriasis, but upon further investigation were determined to have dermatomyositis.
“If you start a psoriasis patient on one of these biologics ... especially an [interleukin (IL)]-17 or IL-23, if they don’t clear at least 50% within the first 6 weeks or so, you need to rethink your diagnosis, because the medications themselves are almost diagnostic,” Young, a nurse practitioner at Modern Dermatology-Aesthetics Center in the Baylor Health Care System in Dallas, said.
