- Data are lacking on the impact of CV digital health tools for women, in part because women are underrepresented in CV clinical trials.
- Increasing participation of women in CV research is needed.
In this Healio video exclusive, Sana M. Al-Khatib, MD, professor of medicine at Duke University School of Medicine, discusses barriers to developing cardiovascular digital health solutions for women.
Al-Khatib chaired a session on this topic at HRX 2024, the Heart Rhythm Society’s meeting on digital health advancements, in September.
“We have a clear lack of data on many digital products, tools and interventions in women because, as we all know, women are not well represented in clinical trials and in registries where these ... tools come from,” she said. “Not just as patients but also as investigators.”
Potential solutions include recruiting more women for clinical trials, modifying study designs to enable more women to participate, having women lead more research studies and forging better connections between researchers and communities, she said.
