Key takeaways:

  • Wearable sensor technologies will play an important role in the gathering of health information in the future.
  • Wearable devices must be comfortable and fashionable if they are to achieve widespread adoption.

In this Healio video exclusive, Rod S. Passman, MD, discusses takeaways from a session on sensor technology that was part of the Heart Rhythm Society’s HRX meeting on digital health advancements.

An underappreciated aspect of the movement toward wearable sensor technologies is that people want them to be comfortable and fashionable, said Passman, who is director of the Center for Arrhythmia Research, the Jules J. Reingold Professor of Electrophysiology and professor of medicine (cardiology) and preventive medicine at Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine.

Many devices generating health data in the future “will be worn,” he said. “It’s important that it be fashionable, that people are able to wear it and incorporate it into their lives. Longevity and ease of use is also going to be important as we move forward.”
