CHICAGO — In this Healio video exclusive, Susan D. Reed, MD, MPH, MS, past president of The Menopause Society, highlights a new pilot program created to improve funding for research in menopause health, with up to four awards of $25,000 each.

“There’s been a huge effort over the last several decades regarding the need for an increase in NIH, or federal, funding for research in menopausal health and, recently, [there has been] a lot of media around the importance of answering more questions related to menopausal health,” Reed, professor emeritus in the department of obstetrics and gynecology at the University of Washington Medical Center and past president of The Menopause Society, told Healio. “We know of the $46 billion NIH funding budget, around 10% of that goes to women’s health and, of the women’s health funding, probably less than 1% of that funding goes to menopause research.”

Reed provided details on how to apply for the research funding at the Annual Meeting of The Menopause Society.
