SANTA FE, NEW MEXICO — In this video exclusive, Christopher Kovacs, MD, FRCP, FACP, FACE, talks about osteoporosis and fragility fractures associated with pregnancy and lactation.

Kovacs is an endocrinologist and research professor of medicine, obstetrics and gynecology at Memorial University of Newfoundland, Canada.

Although not common, osteoporosis and even fractures can occur during pregnancy and breastfeeding for women without adequate dietary calcium intake. Kovacs describes mechanisms for the condition and why treatment is not needed in most cases.
