- recent advances in asthma treatment, including the development of biologics for both allergic asthma and eosinophilic asthma;
- other treatment options available to patients with asthma such as inhaled corticosteroids, combination inhalers and rescue medications;
- existing racial disparities in asthma such as how Black, Latino and Native American patients have the greatest prevalence of the disease, as well as the factors that contribute to these disparities;
- the importance of educating patients with asthma about their increased risk for COVID-19 complications and developing care plans for them, such as ensuring that they would have access to medications used to treat COVID-19; and
- the importance of forming action plans with patients for asthma that include what to do when their asthma worsens and when to seek medical care, and the importance of helping patients identify what external factors can trigger their asthma symptoms.
