VIDEO: Jacofsky discusses market factors that drive orthopedic practice consolidation
In this video, David J. Jacofsky, MD, CEO of Healthcare Outcomes Performance Company, discusses market factors that are driving the current increase in orthopedic surgery practice consolidation.
“There’s a whole host of reasons around this. There’s a lack of stakeholder alignment in many markets and a whole host of industry pressures between hospitals and health systems, as well as between physicians and health systems,” Jacofsky said.
He discusses other factors that impact the trend of consolidation of medical practices, including increasing costs to practice medicine, the shift of orthopedic procedures from the inpatient to outpatient space and the desire of orthopedic surgeons and orthopedic practices to avoid conflicts with payers and to position themselves so they have a competitive edge and are successful in today’s health care environment.
