WAIKOLOA, Hawaii In this video from Orthopedics Today Hawaii, Anthony A. Romeo, MD, spoke about treatment options to improve function and relieve pain in patients with massive irreparable rotator cuff tears.

“All of these soft tissue operations – they start to tail off in their effectiveness once there is arthritis, so at the end, it’s the [reverse shoulder arthroplasty] that is going to work the best. In the beginning, you could try debridement. You may consider a balloon in the right patient or a superior capsular reconstruction, trying to go for more of a biological reconstruction long term,” he said. “It’s a wonderful time to be involved in the management of these tough shoulder problems because of the innovations that we have available at our hands to help our patients.”
