WAIKOLOA, Hawaii — In this video from Orthopedics Today Hawaii, Jack M. Bert, MD, offered advice for orthopedic surgeons who are looking to private practice.

“Is private practice doomed? Is hospital employment inevitable? Are large health care systems going to take over the county?” he said. “Private practice is still viable ... You can do what is called a ‘divisional merger,’ which is kind of a dating situation if you will, with other doctors in your area so that you can afford ancillary services, like an ASC, an MRI, durable medical equipment or physical therapy. Clearly, that’s something that you can do and still have your own autonomy within a group,” Bert added.
