Rothman Orthopaedics has officially launched its Orthopaedic Integrative Health Center, an evidence-based program that addresses orthopedic inflammation, dysfunction, and pain, according to a press release.

The goal is to optimize orthopedic recovery by customizing plans to patients’ needs and aims to help restore patients’ orthopedic health to live better with less pain and more function.

A team of providers “work as consultants with a patient’s primary orthopedic physician to reduce pain, improve function, and prevent further injuries,” according to the report.

The center treats all orthopedics issues, as well as develops preoperative and postoperative orthopedic integrative plans.

“The [Orthopaedic Integrative Health Center] OIHC combines the best of orthopadic care, integrative medicine, and lifestyle medicine,” Saloni Sharma, MD, director of the OIHC and a physical medicine and rehabilitation specialist at Rothman, said in the report. “It empowers patients to feel better with a customized plan that works for their orthopedic issue and considers their unique history, lifestyle factors and stressors. This is the future of complete, personalized care.”

Rather than rely on medications and passive treatments, a patient’s individualized plan is based on an active commitment to better health, according to the release.

The OIHC team keeps patients connected to providers that specialize in enhancing their orthopedic health and wellness, such as integrative health consultation, nutrition consultation, physical therapy, patient navigator, mindfulness and meditation, yoga and acupuncture.

“Rothman Orthopaedics prides itself on setting the standard on caring for patients with the latest and greatest treatment options for high-quality, orthopedic care,” Alexander R. Vaccaro, MD, PhD, MBA, president of Rothman Orthopaedics Institute, Richard H. Rothman Professor and chairperson of the department of orthopedics, and professor of neurosurgery at Thomas Jefferson University and Hospitals, said in the release. “Dr. Sharma is one of the leaders in orthopedic integrative health, and under her guidance our patients can trust that they will receive unparalleled care from our OIHC team.
