VIDEO: When not to operate in patients with adult spinal deformity

SAN DIEGO — In this video, Peter G. Passias, MD, FAAOS, spoke on surgical decision making, risk profile assessment and outcomes of patients with adult spinal deformity.

“Patients really presented with a significant burden. Their disability prior to treatment was substantial,” Passias said. “We wanted to look back, given all that has occurred in the last several decades. Where do we stand? Is there still a patient population that this is deemed too high of a risk of surgery? Is everyone a surgical candidate just based on the mere presence of a spinal deformity?”
