Stryker launches resorbable tendon fixation device system

Stryker announced the launch of its Citrelock tendon fixation device system, an orthopedic device system that offers surgeons resorbable technology, according to a company press release.
According to the release, the Citrelock was designed with unique chemical and mechanical properties for surgical applications. The system features a tendon thread made with a resorbable technology known as Citregen, which contains calcium, citrate and phosphate molecules, to provide surgeons with a differentiated design for tendon fixation procedures.
According to the release, the resorption process of the system prevents bulk degradation and chronic inflammation. It contains a material polymer structure meant to mimic extracellular matrix protein networks. It also reportedly offers surgeons a modulus that compares to the cancellous bone and the compressive strength of the cortical bone.
“Our customers are looking for a more predictable and effective bioresorbable material than what is currently on the market,” Michael Rankin, vice president of marketing and medical education of Stryker’s foot and ankle business, said in the release. “The Citrelock tendon fixation device system helps fill that need with its innovative material technology and unique design.”
Stryker will debut the system at the American Orthopaedic Foot & Ankle Society Annual Meeting.
