WAILEA, Hawaii — Matthew T. Provencher, MD, discussed emerging themes in knee arthroscopy in this video from Orthopedics Today Hawaii 2021.

“Try to preserve the meniscus if at all feasible. Use tried and true techniques, but all-inside-out techniques are getting better,” he said.

Alignment is also important, Provencher said.

“Considering osteotomy in the well-selected patient is very powerful and can improve their outcomes,” he said.

For management of ligaments, he said there has been an emergence of interest in the quadriceps tendon, as well as in the bone-tendon-bone autograft and the hamstring autograft.

“Cartilage and biologics continue to be a big challenge on our world, but we are getting better in terms of improving treatment algorithms, enhancing microfracture with drilling and certain medications,” he said.
