Osteotec Limited announced it has obtained FDA registration for the ChiroKlip, which protects patients and clinicians from the protruding ends of K-wires, according to a press release.

The disposable, single-use, butterfly shaped clip is made of aluminum with an adhesive foam covering. It adheres to the ends of exposed K-wire to protect against bodily trauma and clothing tears. Osteotec also designed a built-in tab for easy removal.

Commercially, the company sells the product in boxes of 25 sterile packs with each pack containing two ChiroKlips. Physicians can use the ChiroKlip for “K-wires with a variety of diameters, reducing the requirement for hospitals to have to hold stock of different sizes of K-wire protectors,” Ric Sumner, head of marketing at Osteotec, told Healio Orthopedics.

Many U.K. hospitals currently use the ChiroKlip, according to the release.

“FDA registration for ChiroKlip will mean that all Osteotec own-manufactured devices can be sold in the U.S.A., presenting a great opportunity for our export business,” Andrew Dubowski, commercial director of Osteotec, said in the release.
