Saint Barnabas Medical Center appoints new chair of department of orthopedics

Saint Barnabas Medical Center announced the appointment of Frank A. Liporace, MD, as chair of the department of orthopedics, according to a press release.

The release noted Liporace, who is an Editorial Board Member for Orthopedics Today, received his undergraduate degree from the State University of New York at Binghamton and his medical degree at New York Medical College before completing his orthopedic surgery residency at New York University/Hospital for Joint Diseases. Liporace also completed an orthopedic trauma and reconstructive fellowship at Tampa General Hospital under Roy Sanders, MD, and the Florida Orthopedic Institute’s Orthopedic Trauma and Reconstructive Service, according to the release.

Liporace and has taught fellows, residents and students at the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey, New York University and Jersey City Medical Center, according to the release. The release noted Liporace has received numerous teaching awards and has more than 130 publications in peer-reviewed journals, more than 10 chapters in orthopedic textbooks and was editor of an orthopedic text on peri-prosthetic fractures. Liporace has also given more than 400 invited lectures on orthopedic trauma and joint reconstruction and replacement worldwide, according to the release.

Zieniewicz, FACHE, president and CEO of Saint Barnabas Medical Center, said in the release. “His vision and forward thinking will further advance the field of orthopedics and position Saint Barnabas Medical Center as a premiere center for our patients and their families.”
