Stryker announced the launch of the AxSOS 3 ankle fusion titanium plate system for fusions of the tibio-talar joint.

The system was developed using SOMA, Stryker’s proprietary orthopedic design and development system which utilizes data from 25,000 bone CT and allows the AxSOS 3 ankle fusion system to fit a wide range of patients without the need for customization, according to a company press release.

“The CP design utilized in Stryker’s forefoot and hindfoot plating systems served as the inspiration to take this technology into ankle fusions,” Keith Wapner, MD, one of the design surgeons, said in the release. “Integrating the stability of plate fixation with the compression of the CP screw allows for a stable ankle fusion construct.”

The design surgeons combined Stryker’s CP technology from Anchorage 2 with the company’s AxSOS 3 screw system and incorporated several additional instruments to assist with alignment and compression, according to the release.
