Once more through the submission of their scientific work, thousands of members of the EFORT community have demonstrated the exceptionally high standard in orthopaedics and trauma around the world. The abstracts submitted for our upcoming congress in Vienna have received a final average score after a 2-month process driven by our expert reviewers, to whom we are grateful for their excellent work and commitment. The reviewers’ collaboration on this matter is of high importance for EFORT and allows us to continue our mission of delivering high-quality education across Europe.
In mid-January, the EFORT Head Office in Rolle, Switzerland, hosted the “Abstracts Allocation” scientific meeting, which is an essential milestone in the planning of our congresses. The 24 members of the EFORT Science Committee worked intensively to consolidate the 40% of the program that is dedicated to abstract-based sessions spread over the 3 days of the congress:
- oral Free Paper sessions (5-minutes podium presentations)
- oral Clinical Report sessions (10-minute cases)
- poster presentations within Poster Walks (best-rated posters of each sub-topic)
- daily Poster sessions (wallpaper compilation of results)
With this important task completed, EFORT can guarantee that the best pieces of work are now selected for on-site presentation at the 2020 Congress.
Due to the high quality of the submitted abstracts, EFORT is proud to announce its highest acceptance rate of the last 8 years with a total of 2,133 abstracts accepted; 664 free papers, 1,370 posters and 99 clinical reports are now part of the scientific program of the Vienna 2020 congress. As our abstract-based sessions aim to increase interaction among participants, EFORT expects an outstanding lively exchange among all experts in Vienna.
During the review process, the EFORT Science Committee occasionally changed the type of presentation format or the specific sub-topic for some of the accepted abstracts. The aim was to maintain the high standards of quality of the scientific content while maximizing the chances for all good submissions to be presented on site.
On Friday 31 January 2020, all presenting authors and co-authors of submitted abstracts were notified by email about the acceptance/rejection status of their work and informed about the final type of presentation for each abstract that has been accepted. The type of presentation stated in the acceptance notification will overrule the type of presentation the authors selected during the submission process or the one suggested after the first step of the scoring; no further changes will be performed. Moreover, each abstract has been attributed a presentation ID to be used as reference in all communications with EFORT and that will help presenters with onsite logistical needs.
The presenting author of an accepted abstract must undertake to attend the congress and present the work in the session, at the time designated by the EFORT Science Committee. EFORT requires all presenting authors to register by Friday 28 February 2020 at the latest. Only registrations for the full congress from presenting authors will be accepted. If the presenting author is unable to present his/her work at the congress, it is his/her responsibility to ensure that one of the co-authors takes over that role.
The complete online scientific program will be available on the EFORT website starting on 15 March 2020 to allow all participants to plan in detail their attendance at sessions and optimize their educational experience during the congress. Presenting authors are invited to visit our online registration platform as of now to validate their participation and work.
EFORT warmly thanks the experts who completed the scoring of abstracts and the members of the EFORT Science Committee for their hard work in creating all the abstract-based sessions for the forthcoming EFORT Congress in Vienna. Their collaboration is important, and it allow us to continue our mission of delivering high-quality education across Europe.
