Hospital for Special Surgery announces two new co-chiefs for spine service

Hospital for Special Surgery announced Harvinder S. Sandhu, MD, MBA, and Andrew A. Sama, MD, will be the new co-chiefs of its spine service beginning in October 2019.

“HSS is world-renowned for its innovative and research-based evaluation and treatment of people with all levels of musculoskeletal disease and injuring, including afflictions of the spine,” Bryan T. Kelly, MD, surgeon-in-chief and medical director at HSS, said in a press release. “We look forward to Drs. Sandhu and Sama’s leadership to continue to elevate our spine program to even higher levels of patient care excellence.”

According to the release, Sandhu is a graduate of Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine and focuses on minimally invasive spinal surgery, microsurgery, computer-assisted surgery and spinal biologics.

“I am looking forward to this new opportunity to build on the strong foundation of our service and continue our mission to provide the highest quality spine care,” Sandhu said in the release.

Sama is a graduate of the University of Miami and completed his fellowship at Hospital for Special Surgery in 2001. Sama specializes in the evaluation and surgical management of all traumatic, degenerative and deformity-related conditions of the spine.
