Suk elected to AMA Board of Trustees

Michael Suk, MD, JD, MPH, MBA, FACS, was elected to the board of trustees of the AMA, according to a press release.

“Dr. Suk’s election to this prestigious position is a testament to his decades of leadership and outstanding advocacy for the medical profession, [e]specially for those early career physicians just starting to engage in the policy-making process and understand the impact those decisions have on their ability to provide care,” American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons President Kristy L. Weber, MD, said in the release. “We’re proud to have a dedicated, experienced orthopedic surgeon in AMA leadership and congratulate Dr. Suk on this high honor.”

Suk is a member of the AAOS and has been involved with the AMA for almost 30 years. He is the chair of the association’s mobility caucus and is a board-certified orthopedic surgeon and chief physician officer of Geisinger System Services. He is chair of Geisinger’s Musculoskeletal Institute and department of orthopedic surgery and is a member of the AAOS Health Care Systems Committee. Suk served on the AMA Council of Medical Service and chaired the resident and fellow section.

“It is a real honor to be part of [AMA] because it is the articulating voice for the American medical profession,” Suk told Healio.com/Orthopedics. “I’ve been honored by taking on a leadership role by my peers [who] recognize not only myself as a physician or orthopedic surgeon or integrated health system leader, [but] recognize the changing world of medicine needs voices that represent all different practice settings and specialties.” - by Monica Jaramillo
