VIDEO: Many patients with functional deficits regret undergoing surgery for desmoid fibromatosis

LAS VEGAS — At the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons Annual Meeting, Kevin A. Raskin, MD, discussed a study that looked at the oncological and functional outcomes after treatment for desmoid fibromatosis of the extremities. He said most patients with a functional deficit regret the surgeries they had to treat desmoid tumors.

“There’s a fine line with desmoids between getting patients cured enough so that they maintain functional outcomes as much as possible and, at the same time, they are able to live with the disease, Raskin said.
