Zimmer Biomet receives FDA clearance of surgical navigation system for neurosurgical procedures

Zimmer Biomet announced it received FDA clearance for its surgical navigation system, the ROSA One Brain Application, which is intended for neurosurgical procedures.

According to a company press release, the ROSA may be used during minimally invasive neurosurgery procedures, such as biopsies and stereo-electro-encephalography, deep brain stimulation, and ventricular and transnasal endoscopies. The speed and accuracy of the ROSA One Brain Application will reportedly have an impact on epilepsy surgery, in which various instruments are inserted into the brain. Zimmer Biomet anticipates the robotic advantages may also be used to assist surgeons with accurate placement of surgical instruments in spinal procedures, such as thoracolumbar spine surgery.

The pending clearance of the ROSA One Spine Application is expected to bring these same robotic advantages to thoracolumbar spine surgery, assisting in the accurate and reproducible placement of surgical instruments in spinal procedures.
