EFORT

Once again through the submission of their scientific work, thousands of members of the EFORT community have demonstrated the exceptionally high standard in orthopaedics and trauma around the world. The 3,623 abstracts submitted for our Lisbon congress have now received a final average score after a 2-month process driven by our expert reviewers, to whom we are grateful for their excellent work and commitment. The reviewers’ collaboration on this matter is of high importance for EFORT and allows us to continue our mission of delivering high-quality education across Europe.

In mid-January, the EFORT Head Office in Rolle, Switzerland hosted the “Lisbon 2019 abstracts allocation meeting,” which was an essential milestone of our upcoming congress. The 24 members of our EFORT Science Committee worked intensively to consolidate the 40% of the program that is dedicated to abstract-based sessions spread over the 3 days of the congress:

  • 73 oral free paper sessions (5-minute podium presentations);
  • 12 oral clinical report sessions (10-minute cases);
  • 45 poster walks (best-rated posters of each sub-topic); and
  • more than 60 poster sessions (displaying wall paper presentations).

With this important task completed, EFORT can guarantee that the best pieces of work are now selected for onsite presentation at the 2019 Congress.

Due to the high quality of the submitted abstracts, EFORT is proud to announce its highest acceptance rate of the last 7 years (61.7) with a total of 2,235 abstracts having been accepted: 740 free papers; 1405 posters; and 90 clinical reports are now part of the scientific program of the Lisbon congress. As our abstract-based sessions aim to increase interaction among participants, EFORT expects an outstanding lively exchange among all experts in Lisbon.

During the review process, the EFORT Science Committee occasionally changed the type of presentation format for some of the accepted abstracts. The aim was to maintain the high standards of quality of the scientific content while maximizing the chances for all good submissions to be presented on site.

On Friday 1 February 2019, all presenting authors and co-authors of submitted abstracts were notified by email about the acceptance/rejection status of their work, as well as about the final type of presentation for each abstract that has been accepted. The type of presentation stated in the acceptance notification will overrule the type of presentation the authors selected during the submission process or the one suggested after the first step of the scoring; no further changes will be made.

The presenting author of an accepted abstract must undertake to attend the congress and present the work in the session, at the time designated by the EFORT Science Committee.

PAGE BREAK

EFORT requires all presenting authors to register by Thursday 28 February at the latest. Only registrations for the full congress from presenting authors will be accepted.

If the presenting author is unable to present his or her work at the congress, it is his or her responsibility to ensure that one of the co-authors takes over the role.

The complete online scientific program will be available on the EFORT website starting on 15 March 2019 to allow all participants to plan in detail their attendance at sessions and optimize their educational experience during the congress. Presenting authors are invited to visit the online registration platform as of now to validate their participation and work.
