EFORT

The abstract submission for our upcoming EFORT Congress in Lisbon, to be held from 5 to 7 June 2019, is now closed. The handling of every piece of work received has already reached the next step: Online scoring of the submitted abstracts has been launched by the end of November and the EFORT pool of expert reviewers are currently selecting the best work to be presented on site. By the end of the year, the review process will be completed and the EFORT Science Committee will hold an important meeting in January 2019 to embed all the accepted abstracts in the overall scientific program for the congress, either as oral or poster presentations.

Therefore, on behalf of the EFORT leadership, we would like to take this opportunity to thank all our abstract submitters, the more than 9,300 authors from the worldwide orthopaedics and trauma community who sent us their latest findings to contribute to the creation of the 2019 scientific program.

The high interest to share orthopaedic knowledge on a European level has been highlighted this year by the submission of 3,623 free papers, posters and clinical reports in our three main categories of orthopaedics (61%), trauma (30%) and general topics (8%). Among these abstracts, the most popular topics were orthopaedics – knee and lower leg (18%); orthopaedics - pelvis, hip & femur (16%); trauma - hip & femur (8%); orthopaedics – shoulder and upper arm (5%); and musculoskeletal tumors (4%).* Besides this, the most active countries to send in work were the United Kingdom (23%), Portugal (11%), Spain (7%), Japan (6%) and South Korea (5%).*

The main theme of the upcoming 2019 EFORT Congress in Lisbon seems also to have drawn the attention of submitters, as the number of abstracts directly linked to “Registries & Impact on Practice” has increased considerably.

All authors who have a special query, such as changes in affiliation or contact details of any authors, update of the conflict of interest disclosures, minor spelling corrections or any other need should directly contact the abstract team by sending a message to scicom@efort.org.

On Friday 1 February 2019, EFORT will notify all authors and co-authors about the acceptance status of their submitted abstracts, as well as give a preliminary schedule for their presentations. The presenting author of a selected abstract must undertake to attend the congress and present the abstract in the session and at the time designated by the scientific committee.

For further details on registration fees and attendance, please consult our registration platform as of January 2019. Remember the online scientific program goes public on 15 March 2019.

Good luck and see you in Lisbon.
