DJO announces outpatient arthroplasty risk assessment tool at AAHKS

DJO announced the availability of OaraScore at the American Association of Hip and Knee Surgeons Annual Meeting. According to a company press release, OaraScore is industry’s first outpatient arthroplasty risk assessment tool that provides medical professionals with the information needed to assess the appropriate postoperative length of stay after total joint arthroplasty.

Part of DJO’s health care solutions platform, MotionMD, OaraScore is the first patient selection tool developed specifically for total joint replacement patients, according to the release. OaraScore uses a validated, multidisciplinary algorithm that has been shown to more precisely predict the ability of a patient to be discharge home the same day or the morning after total joint replacement, the release noted. The tool also tracks readmission rates and compares data to all other physicians using the tool while keeping confidential patient data encrypted throughout the process.

“Previous risk-stratification tools looked at more superficial measures like patient motivation, home support and preoperative physical and mental condition,” Jeffrey A. McCaulley, global president of DJO Surgical, said in the release. “OaraScore is the only clinically validated, peer-reviewed risk-stratification tool for total joint arthroplasty, and its values are derived by evaluating nine critical comorbidity factors and overall medical conditions, all in real time.”
