EFORT

Major skin defects have to be treated on a daily basis in orthopaedic and trauma surgery. This EFORT Anatomical Course course teaches experienced surgeons the skills they need if plastic surgeons are not available. There are several techniques in plastic surgery that an orthopaedic or trauma surgeon should master.

If a difficult case involving a skin-related problem arises, an orthopaedic surgeon cannot always expect that a plastic surgeon is there to assist. It is, therefore, important to know and be able to execute those five to 10 most important flap techniques.

During this EOTEP-accredited course, after demonstration by a faculty member, participants will have the opportunity to repeat and carry out all flap procedures covered in the syllabus on a cadaveric specimen.

Flaps scheduled

  • Chinese flap
  • Posterior interosseous flap
  • Gastrocnemius muscles
  • Soleus flap
  • Flexors and extensors muscle flaps
  • Saphenous flap
  • Latissimus dorsi and scapular flaps
  • Sural flap
  • Supramalleolar flap
  • Lateral arm flap
  • Brachioradialis flap and ulnar flap
  • Anterolateral flap
  • Free fibulanatomical basis of the flaps

The benefit of the interactivity made possible by the cadaver course is that it provides a unique experience where every step of the surgical technique is explained while it is being performed and all technical details are discussed.
