Catastrophes, large damage and mass casualty events are conceivable dangers, which have also occurred recently in Oslo, Nice and Muenster, to name just a few.

The extent of the damage to the affected individuals in such cases can only be predicted very imprecisely. For this reason, strategic concepts must be developed that allow a measured, rapid and orderly response as the event unfolds. These concepts must be developed at the relevant regional or national level and adapted based on the available emergency or catastrophe protection services.

This edition of the EPOS BAT Advanced Course that takes place 22 to 23 November 2018 in Vienna will include theoretical lectures and five workshops, and it demonstrates the fundamental necessities that must be considered, as well as the concepts that have been developed, both in terms of organization, as well as casualty treatment in a catastrophic event.

The focus of the course is on the treatment of multiply injured juvenile patients, which extends beyond the knowledge of a basic course to include:

  • Organization of the care in case of massive injuries
  • Description of specific injuries due to the massive attacks
  • Feedback from the previous terrorist attacks in Europe
  • Acute management of multiple injuries
  • Strategy and treatment of the sequelae in multiple injuries
  • Case discussions

Workshops:

  • External fixator of ankle, pelvis
  • Damage control, and floating joint
  • Cases discussion for scoring the severity
  • Cases discussion for antibiotics guidelines
  • Masquelet’s technique

This course is an EFORT EOTEP accredited event.
