BARCELONA, Spain — The European Federation of National Associations of Orthopedics and Traumatology is in the early stages of forging a new plan to better communicate what EFORT is to the European community, which needs to convey that the organization is more than its annual congress, Per Kjaersgaard-Andersen, MD, who will become the 2018/2019 president of the EFORT board, said.
Kjaersgaard-Andersen said the plan was developed during the term of Enric Caceres Palou, MD, PhD, FRC, and began to be implemented during the presidency of Jan Verhaar, MD, PhD.
During the opening ceremony at the EFORT Annual Congress, Kjaersgaard-Andersen urged EFORT members and partners to be patient as the new plan, which results in EFORT being known for its work in the areas of education, research, guidelines harmonization, setting clinical standards and promoting orthopedics- and traumatology-related issues within the European domain, gets momentum.
“I think I, today, know EFORT is a big ship and it will take some time from decision to change the direction of the boat until we are there,” he said. “It is a great honor to be the next president of EFORT, and I will do my best to serve all of you. However, there will always be challenges, and I’m happy to have a great EFORT board just around me.”
Kjaersgaard-Andersen also acknowledged the support he will need and receive from others during his presidency.
“Together, we will be strong,” he said. – by Susan M. Rapp
