Atlantic Health System appoints orthopedic oncologist to its orthopedic leadership team
James C. Wittig, MD, was recently named chairman of the department of orthopedics at Morristown Medical Center and the medical director of orthopedic oncology at the Atlantic Health System, according to a press release.
Wittig is an Orthopedics Today Editorial board member.
Wittig is reportedly one of 100 orthopedic oncologists in the United States. He wrote and co-edited Techniques in Orthopedic Surgical Oncology, the only text book that details surgical procedures in orthopedic oncology. He also established the first orthopedic oncology clinic for indigent care in New York City at Bellevue Hospital Center and established the sarcoma service at NYU-Tisch Hospital.

According to the release, Wittig was vice chairman of orthopedic surgery, chief of orthopedic oncology and sarcoma surgery, and director of the skin and sarcoma division at Hackensack University Medical Center. He has also served as chief of orthopedic oncology at Mount Sinai Medical Center and practiced at New York University Medical Center and at the Hospital for Joint Diseases.
He is a member of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons, New Jersey Orthopedic Society and New York State Society of Orthopaedic Surgeons Inc. and is a specialty fellow of the American Pediatric Association and the Medical Society of New Jersey.
