The American Joint Replacement Registry announced the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons Orthopaedic Quality Resource Center has inherited the quality clinical data registry designation from CMS for 2018 after the two societies became partners in 2017.

According to a release from American Joint Replacement Registry (AJRR), The Orthopaedic Quality Resource Center is a collaboration between AJRR, the American Association of Hip and Knee Surgeons, the Orthopaedic Trauma Association and the American Orthopaedic Association’s Own the Bone program. This is the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons’ (AAOS) first year involved in the expansion of measures.

The 2018 Orthopaedic Quality Resource Center will have 38 measures and can be used by eligible professionals in orthopedic specialties.

“The AJRR is pleased to announce that the Orthopaedic Quality Resource Center has been designated as a [quality clinical data registry (QCDR)] once again for 2018,” Kevin J. Bozic, MD, MBA, AJRR Steering Committee chair, said in the release. “Our partnership with other orthopaedic organizations focused on improving value for patients has allowed us to offer a great resource for surgeons in past years. And now, with the support of AAOS we can use their expertise to inform the measures our QCDR collects.”

AJRR has also appointed 2018 Steering Committee representatives and its executive committee. Among the executive committee members are: Bozic, as chair; Bryan D. Springer, MD, as vice chair; Scott M. Sporer, MD, as secretary and David E. Mino, MD, MBA, as treasurer. Yvonne Bokelman, MBA, FACHE, will begin her new role as AdvaMed representative.

According to another AJRR release, AJRR became part of the AAOS’s registries portfolio in October 2017 and then the AJRR board of directors became the AJRR Steering Committee. Paul Voorhorst, an AdvaMed representative and James A. Browne, MD, a The Knee Society Representative, are among the newest members of the committee.
